WHAT IS SLG?

A customizable and comfortable garment the athlete can wear to ensure a safe landing. By using 3D printing technology, the SLG garment will ensure that users with different needs perform with good landing mechanisms.

Too many athletes are experiencing injuries upon landing due to improper form or weak ligaments. When landing from a jump, athletes can experience up to 7 times their own body weight.

“To be able to be minimal and target areas that really need the compression would be tremendous. Current braces often provide too much support for what the players need which ends up causing more damage in other joints.”

“The body needs balance. A lot of times our activities cause us to use some muscles more than others, especially athletes. To train or protect athlete’s joints and muscles in these activities are crucial”

INTIAL APPROACH

While testing some of my prototypes, I noticed a kickback on the landing. Both examples show the test subject landing with their knees inward. The wrong form caused the garment to redirect the impact away from their knees.

MATRERIAL PROPERTY TEST

Switching to flexible polyurethane filament increased comfortability. However, to be accurate with generating a pattern, I had to perform a compression test. These tests are conducted with a pull force of 25N pull force. Patterns varied in sizes and wall thickness.
