ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Hubert Chen. A designer and a creative who’s always exploring new mediums to express ideas and tell stories. Whether it’s playing music, capturing moments through photography, making short films, or writing, creativity is at the center of everything I do. Scroll down to learn more about my journey.

TAIWAN

I was born in Taiwan and was instantly launched into a household of musicians and music enthusiasts. At an early age I developed an interest in playing piano and soon followed the footsteps of my siblings.

CANADA

I immigrated to Canada at the age of two. My parents quickly realized I was a bit of a troublemaker. Beyond the usual childhood antics, I had a habit of doing things differently. I was frequently thinking outside the box and this often got me into trouble. But there was always a thrill in finding my own way to reach the same result. In hindsight, it was probably the first sign that I was a creative at heart.

NEW YORK

Soon after, I was accepted to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where I majored in Industrial Design. During this time, I was able to fully channel my creativity while learning from mentors who helped guide and refine my skills. Most importantly, it was where I developed and strengthened my creative process and approach to design thinking.

BOSTON, HAWAII, LA

People, people, people. As my career progressed and I explored new opportunities, I found myself moving between different cities. Each move brought its own set of challenges, but along the way I was always able to build meaningful friendships and connections that defined those chapters of my life. It was during this time that I realized these relationships were not only grounding, but also source of inspiration that fueled my creativity.

Europe and Now

Now I am on the Europe leg of my journey. Continuing my adventure as a creative, I seek to keep pushing my way of thinking and living. I am constantly learning and seeking new and uncomfortable challenges in work and in my personal life. I am unsure of what the future holds but am more excited than ever to step into it with a big smile on my face.
